Assistance League of Santa Ana Scholarship Program

College scholarships are provided by the Pupil Recognition Opportunity Program and granted to graduates in the Santa Ana Unified School District. To qualify, the student must be recommended by a Regional Occupational Program teacher, demonstrate financial need, and interview with Santa Ana chapter members who serve as mentors. Annually 25-50 scholarships are awarded at a Recognition Ceremony in the spring.

Assistance League Outreach

The goal of Assistance League Outreach is to provide for short term community needs that cannot be addressed by existing programs. Examples of our hands-on projects include providing 200 Christmas gifts and caroling at a local assisted living facility, blankets for the homeless, purses filled with necessities for women in shelters, donations of clothing to shelter residents and Gift of Giving, which provides migrant worker families with new gifts and grocery certificates during the holiday season.

Dental Center

The Dental Center provides Santa Ana Unified School District children with low-cost dental care and hygiene education. Dentists and hygienists work with volunteers in our on-site clinic to provide affordable dental care. Oral hygiene educational materials are distributed directly to local schools and through numerous health fairs.

Operation School Bell

New school uniforms, including shoes, jackets and underclothing, are furnished through Operation School Bell®, the nationally acclaimed philanthropy of National Assistance League®. Members also provide recipients with backpacks filled with school supplies, good grooming kits filled with personal hygiene items and a new book.

With help from a volunteer member, more than 1,500 students are supplied with appropriate clothing and backpacks each year, making recipients indistinguishable from their classmates, building pride and reducing the problem of school absences due to inadequate clothing. For many children, this is the first time they've had new clothing to call their own.

Partnerships

Assistance League has formed collaboration with Head Start, Inc. The program is funded by the Federal Government to introduce eligible preschool children to the learning experience. Hands-on activities help give children an educational advantage before they enter the school system. Daily lunches and snacks are provided in Assistance League of Santa Ana's modern, well-equipped facility. Assistance League of Santa Ana partners with Project Independence offering opportunities for work experience.

Serving Eager Eyes (SEE) Optometric Program
